Chris Tate

Neil is an accomplished and diligent microwave engineer who also has a good understanding of commercial and project needs. During our time together at MESL, Neil designed some complex filter and coupler products for a leading European telecom customer - he worked very well with the mechanical and technology parts of the business to overcome new technical challenges and delivered a good quality design which met both the customer need and the internal business target. Neil is conscientious and very personable and I would welcome the opportunity to work with him in the future if the opportunity arose.

Neil Wolfenden

Neil is an experienced design engineer with the willingness to get involved with the business as well as the product. Neil was a good colleague that could be relied on to work as part of a team and provide suggestions for improvements within the Company procedures.I hope to have the chance to work with Neil in the future."

Role continued following ASC Signal company formation from a private equity buy-out of Andrew's Satellite communications group. I was responsible as Key Project Lead for the project management, design and development of an ambitious product line of next generation satellite antennas (synthesised-surface reflectors plus feed systems), with projected Sales value >$4m pa. My role also included substantial Sales and Product support for existing VSAT and DBS legacy product lines with multi-million dollar value, and functional management of a team of RF Test technicians. Notable achievements include: Development of shaped reflector capability including a dual Ku/Ka-band antenna with >80% efficiency; Design of a wideband feed horn for Ka-band, Patented design of a specialist corrugated feed horn compensating for cross-polarisation induced by offset reflector geometry; Product Type Approval recognition by the major European satellite operator; Cost reduction redesign exercises delivering >$750k pa savings, Launch and control of project and documentation management systems; Introduction of Antenna noise temperature Test capability; Vendor qualification and test in Asia. • Yield Analysis Engineer
      • 2000 - 2001

For this role, I was selected from my university peer group for a paid sponsorship of my Masters degree, which involved the completion of a substantial thesis in addition to typical Engineering responsibilities; This involved a detailed analysis of the existing Failure Analysis implementation and management, suggestion of improvements, and implementation of appropriate countermeasures. * Worked within a team responsible for yield management and new product introduction of the state-of-the-art (0.18micron) in semiconductor memory technology from NECs Japanese design centre. * Yield maintenance and improvement was conducted within a highly complex and high-tech manufacturing environment, where duties included daily failure mode effect analysis, monitoring of on-wafer test data and management control of production lots through over 400 processing stages. * Close coordination with engineers from other functions was essential in root-cause analysis, processing of statistical control data and countermeasure implementation. * Regular and frequent presentation of key technical and control management information to site executives and engineering managers. * Held responsibility for the experimental introduction of improved efficiency processes and their eventual release to mass-production, a role which included parallel process setup and benchmarking against global sister facilities. * My team was successful in introducing a new high-density memory product, which reduced chip size and increased profitability by 80% compared to the existing model.
