Ministry Resident

Currently finishing a year-long residency program that mentors young leaders who are passionate about the local church with the goal of developing their skills in alignment with their passions to pursue career growth. Strengthened support for foster families in our community and church body by participating on the Foster Care Leadership Team. Developed/Created “Possible+Likely” podcast and toolkit which aims to equip our church and community to address the local foster care crisis (in progress). Provided Leadership and Hospitality at the Community Resource Center, a tutoring and social services center in partnership with the local school district to assist struggling families and students in our area. Mentored by senior church leadership about how to approach divisive cultural issues and pursue unity as a church body. Participated on the church-wide communications team to help our ministries effectively communicate and reach their targeted audiences through social media. Provided assistance on various levels through our benevolence ministry to help people facing hardships and economic difficulties. Grew in my knowledge and awareness of the foster care crisis nationally and locally. Planned, communicated and marketed for church-wide events and programs. Show less

This experience significantly expanded my worldview and changed my life. For the first time, I saw America from an outsiders’ perspective, and it opened my eyes to the brokenness within the U.S., specifically pertaining to racial injustices, systemic racism/oppression, and mass incarceration. Deepened my passion for helping and serving those in poverty. Took classes at UCU that taught me about the Ugandan culture, literature, traditions, and religions around me. Studied the Rwandan Genocide and translated what I learned to thinking about peace, conflict, and restorative justice in America. While on campus, lived with a Ugandan roommate, and while off campus I split my time with two host families, one in an urban area, and the other in a rural village where we slept in mud huts and tended to agriculture.
