I was privileged to work with Nathan on the development of a new medical device for analysis of glycated hemoglobin. I led the team in hardware development and Nathan was responsible for the chemistry and process/performance of the system. Nathan provided excelent leadership and guidance in bringing the product to successful conclusion. Nathan is very sharp with the technology balances this well with an easy to work with personality. Given the opportunity to work with Nathan again, I would not hesitate to undertake another project.

As a Field Services Engineer I provide after sales support to the customers of Scientific Support Services Ltd. The majority of these customers are multi-dimensional Gas Chromatography users in the UK Oil and Gas sector but I also speciliasise in the XOS MWD-XRF systems and VUV Analytics new VUV detector too. As part of the Field Services Team, I install, maintain, repair and provide performance verifications on these systems. The AC Analytical Controls GC systems we support are based on Agilent 6850/6890/7890/8890 chassis and are among the most complex GC applications in the world, making this a challenging, customer facing role. I now lead our Assisted and Augmented Reality project, developing relationships with companies in the XR space, our suppliers and customers. In the last year I have proposed the integration of AR / XR into our engineering toolkits, scoped, planned and delivered the purchase and deployment of Realwear Navigator-500 headsets and oculavis Share software. During the roll out I have been negotiated permission to use this technology on customer sites, demoed it where required and overseen 85% ROI within 7 months of purchase. Finally, I built our Microsoft Access Web App database, which now contains thousands of entries, linking engineers to visit report forms, instrument technical documents, parts lists, technical troubleshooting history and much more. This system ensures all members of the team are accessing up-to-date records and SSS admin systems wherever they are. The database features full service history for every instrument in-field, contract handling for all instruments and customers, quote records, sales lead generation records, automated service work schedules, automated support meeting agendas and dynamic support documentation lists.

Precious Plastic Lancaster is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company designed to educate people about the problem and potential of plastic waste by providing engaging outreach services and compelling products to help show people a better way to use and re-use plastic. As a Co-Founder I was responsible for some of the product design, early web and graphic design, project development (e.g. development of a dual channel injection moulder and testing 3D printed and weak substrate moulds), writing grants and bids, delivering workshops / presentations, building the network with other UK Precious Plastic start-ups and teams. As one of the two Co-Founder / Directors of Precious Plastic Lancaster my role is partly in supporting the manufacturing / workshop team, providing technical knowledge to support on-going manufacture and product development. The team now comprises five people with some now having transitioned to a permanent part-time basis due to business growth. We recently launched our own brand called Relic which sells products developed and manufactured at Precious Plastic Lancaster. I spend my free time designing and developing new products, injection moulds and exhibit pieces from recycled plastic. I maintain links with the wider, global, Precious Plastic network, field technical enquiries from businesses looking for contract manufacture from PPL and occasionally perform public speaking and educational outreach. Due to my full-time position, my role at PPL is voluntary and performed in my free time outside of work.
