    • Rosenthal Fellow, Office of Stability and Humanitarian Affairs

I was independently responsible for several portfolios: driving progress on objectives, representing the office at interagencymeetings, and prepping materials for action by principals in order to further the work of office on those issues. I wrote 4 of the 5 objectives in the 2015 Annual Report on National Action Plan for Women, Peace, Security after compiling and analyzing data to provide the White House with an overview of DOD’s efforts as part of my responsibilities for one of those portfolios. Generally, I represented the office in intra-department meetings, inter-agency groups, and public conferences in order to build strong working relationships and ensure the presentation of the office’s and DOD’s perspectives. While serving as a Rosenthal fellow, I also designed and implemented a new data collection system used by 70 different DOD offices by combining knowledge of SharePoint, Access, and InfoPath that improved user experiences and allowed for improved analysis.

I coordinate the political and legislative advocacy activities in Central and Southeast Ohio. I work with members of three different AFSCME affiliates. I also work to engage with like-minded organizations and community groups in the area to advance union-supported issues and candidates. In this position, I have worked with several other in-house departments including working with the Communications Department on press events in my area, helping the Organizing & Field Services Department in their efforts to grow the union, and the Federal Affairs Department to activate members around key federal legislative issues.I designed educational programs and materials relating to the union's political efforts in order to reach and activate membership in political activity. I also created a data and targeting plan for a statewide membership outreach election program with a universe of over 100,000 potential voters.I have been sent to several different parts of the country on short notice to assist with high priority elections in those locations. I have done whatever was asked of me in those situation including stepping into leadership and management positions with little background on the campaign or the local community and experienced significant success in those situations.

I drafted letters that were used to respond to constituents based on their issue of concern. I regularly interacted with constituents on the phone and in person, giving tours, recording constituent comments, and answering questions. I routed other correspondence to the appropriate staff member. As an intern for a US House Representative, I attended meetings and reported back to the other staff via memos.
