My role as the director of the Anglia Ruskin Clinical Trials Unit (ARCTU) involved setting the strategic vision for the unit, developing and leading on the operational delivery plan, and overseeing the day to day running of the unit. ARCTU is a newly established clinical trials unit, formed as a research partnership between Anglia Ruskin Universities' Postgraduate Medical Institute, NHS Trusts from Cambridgeshire, Essex and Hertfordshire, and industry partners. The unit’s aim is to work with our partner NHS trusts, SMEs and commercial companies, and research funders to increase opportunities for patients to take part in both local investigator led and commercial trials. In my role as operations manager I was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management and strategic development of the Cambridge Cancer Trials Centre (CCTC). The centre employed over 90 staff involved in both the coordination of locally sponsored trials (ranging from small single site early phase trials to large multi-site late phase trials) and the participation in trials sponsored outside Cambridge. The unit had a portfolio of around 20 locally sponsored trials and over 200 participation studies.Staff were funded by a range of commercial, governmental and charitable sources, contributing to an annual budget of around £3.5m, which I was responsible for managing. As a result, my role involved working closely with research networks, funding organisations, pharma companies and CROs as well as the local service providers and R&D departments. Show less
