Having Matt on my project during the IDS program was one of the highlights of my experience. We worked together for a quarter-long user research assignment. Each week, Matt came prepared with insightful contributions and often pushed our group forward. He navigated conflict and disagreements with aplomb. Matt was always willing to go the extra mile and motivated our teammates to do the same. I had the pleasure of being in class with Matt a couple of other times and saw his dedication and skill shine in each. When advising others on whether they should pursue the IDS program, I reference Matt's approach as guidance for how to get the most out of the experience. He is truly a wonderful team member and leader with a lot of skills and drive to consistently build new ones.

I have worked with Matt for the last 4 year. Matt and I worked side by side as photographers at OnlineShoes.com. Matt was my mentor; he taught me the ins and outs of product/production photography. Early on he was my go to guy for photo equipment, lighting and Photoshop questions. Matt’s eagerness to teach, as well as learn was evident. He gets so excited when he finds a new tool in Photoshop or Lightroom and loves to share his knowledge with his peers. Through observing his technique and asking him questions I have learned a lot. If it wasn’t for Matt I wouldn’t be the photographer I am today, and for that I am extremely thankful. Matt’s position at OnlineShoes.com/Shoes.com has evolved tremendously. While his career started in the production side of photography, eventually he became lead photographer managing all creative photography for the Shoes.com family of sites. He was responsible for location scouting, booking models, stylists, and hair/makeup artists. In addition to the preplanning, he executed on location and in studio photo-shoots, often without an assistant. He managed to improve the sites images significantly. The quality of his work was top notch, from the lighting and composition, to the outstanding retouching work. Much of his work is featured all around the Shoes.com offices. In Seattle his images are even on the elevator doors! His imagery is also featured on billboards in Vancouver, Canada. Matt is one of the smartest people I know. He’s like a walking encyclopedia. He’s well educated, but you can tell he finds great pleasure in increasing his knowledge in everything. Matt is a loyal, and kind-hearted person, and I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to work with him over the last 4 years.
