As a Teaching Assistant for the Trial Practice Institute Pretrial I class, I help students understand everything that encompasses the pre-trial process. The students have an assignment due every week, beginning with an Engagement Letter and ending with a Motion for Summary Judgment. I look over every student's assignment, making sure it complies with the local court rules, checking for typos and grammatical errors, and commenting on the substance of the document. • Student Clinician for the Civil Rights Clinic
      • Aug 2017 - May 2018

Working as a student clinician in the Civil Rights Clinic is a great opportunity to practice every stage of the litigation process. We represent prisoners who file Section 1983 Civil Rights cases when their rights are not being recognized in prison. This is the only clinic at MSU that requires students to commit to an entire year, which is extremely valuable. This allows me to see an entire case through, from beginning to end.I will argue my first trial in Federal Court in March, where I will have the opportunity to do the opening and closing arguments, as well as direct and cross examinations. I have also taken depositions, produced discovery requests, written motions, visited clients in prison, and so much more. Show less

    • Teaching Assistant
      • Aug 2017 - Dec 2017

As a teaching assistant for Civil Procedure, I hold bi-weekly labs where students can put what they learn into practice. Through hypotheticals, mock exams, and outline prep, I hope to make the transition to law school a little easier.

    • Intern
      • May 2017 - Aug 2017

I interned within the Juvenile Lifer Unit. Because the United States Supreme Court recently found it unconstitutional to sentence a juvenile to life without the possibility of parole, no matter what the crime, this unit specializes in re-sentencing cases that deal with individuals who were charged with homicide as a child. I met with clients to conduct interviews, draft motions, affidavits, and various other documents for the court or the prosecutor, and research legal issues. I interned within the Juvenile Lifer Unit. • Legal Clinic Director
      • May 2015 - May 2016

The Legal Clinic was a great resource for students at Central Michigan University to receive a free, 30 minute legal advice session with a licensed attorney. In my paid position as Director, I connected students who needed legal advice with participating attorneys. They would report their situation and questions to me, and I would relay the information to the attorney. Since the Legal Clinic was an extension of the Student Government Association, I also collaborated with other members of the Executive Council to work on various projects around campus. Show less
