      WOPLAH is a non-profit organization founded by community members in western Kenya. Together they recognized a need within their community for equitable access to HIV/AIDS counselling and testing, health education, and economic empowerment. The Ambassadors work to reduce stigma for people living positively with HIV/AIDS and their families through support groups, community dialogues, and income generation. After years working with people suffering from HIV and that are currently taking PreP medication , the organization noticed that there is often a low adherence to PreP , specially in key populations and by talking with this affected groups they suspected that this could be due to the stigma and social exclusion that people taking PreP medication suffer. As an intern, I collaborated in a research workgroup which aspired to conduct research that could clarify what are the reasons why people discontinue from PreP medication, especially in key populations, and what role does stigma have in this behaviors Show less
