Team leader and back-up supervisor in the Kinship Navigator Unit. This unit is part of a federally funded grant and is under the Oklahoma State Office-Child and Family Services Division (CFSD), and is located in and serves children in OK County. The purpose of the unit is to diligently search for kinship connections and/or placement options for all new children that come into OKDHS custody or are at risk entering the shelter. The goal of the unit is to approve kinship placements for child and divert them from shelter placement or significantly reduce their length of stay in the shelter. Kinship placements can be approved in as little as a few hours, which makes the child’s length of stay less than 1 day. Kinship Navigators assist kinship caregivers in learning about, finding, and using programs and services available to support this placement for the child. The long-term outcomes are to: 1) allow families to have enhanced capacity to provide for their children’s needs, 2) include consistent child and family involvement in case planning, 3) allow for reunification, guardianship, or permanent placement with relatives, and 4) increase the permanency and stability for children in their kinship placement arrangements.
