I met Liam when I joined New Teacher Center, and quickly came to know him as a reliable thought partner on strategic communication. With deep expertise in education policy and helpful connections across the sector, Liam led New Teacher Center into new spheres of influence that supported the organization’s mission and growth. I was particularly impressed by Liam’s ability to translate policy shifts into actionable guidance for the organization and the education practitioners connected to its work. He knows how to collaborate effectively, how to lead by example and -- best of all -- how to have fun while working hard.

Liam and I worked together at the New Teacher Center from 2008-2013. He led our policy team with researching and authoring several publications including new teacher and administrator induction policy in all 50 states. This led to other opportunities including working with the Colorado Department of Education to conduct an analysis and review of their induction work across Colorado school districts. Liam was a great leader, boss and colleague. I enjoyed working with him and always learned something new that helped me grow as a policy analyst and in the education field. He is very skilled at research, writing, client relationships and working with a team. Liam is great at fostering relationships so that you can learn, grow and do your best work in a supportive environment. I highly recommend him for any professional opportunities he pursues and would love to work with him again.

New Teacher Center (NTC) focused on improving student learning by accelerating the effectiveness of teachers and school leaders. As policy director, I collaborated across the organization to advance a strategic policy plan incorporating policy consultation, communications, and advocacy. My responsibilities included: advancing NTC visibility in the policy community; developing talking points, frameworks and tools to help policymakers; speaking to the news media; communicating research and impact data that informs policy in support of educator effectiveness; consulting with federal and state policymakers and educational leaders to write legislation and regulations and implement policies; authoring policy briefs and white papers; engaging in policy analysis; delivering policy and academic conference presentations; writing blog items and social media posts; and writing grant proposals. During my time at NTC, I served as interim communications director on two separate occasions. I supervised up to three direct reports. Over my 12 years, I reported directly to the CEO, to the Chief of External Affairs, to the Senior Vice President for Program Strategy, and to the Vice President for Marketing and Communications.
