The goal was to prepare people with mild to moderate disabilities for employment within the hospitality industry. We provide this training through a unique partnership with Hyatt Hotels, State Vocational Rehabilitation Agencies, and local School Districts. This state-funded program started at one Hyatt Hotel and in only one department - Culinary. However, over the past 18 years, the program has expanded to 35 Hyatt Hotels nationwide and students are now training in most hotel departments - such as Housekeeping, Laundry, Guest Services, Banquets, Engineering, Purchasing and Receiving, Cafeteria and Restaurant Services, etc. The students receive a salary, uniforms, tools, completion certificates, and increased confidence and employability skills. More importantly, the participants are able to use Hyatt as a recent employment reference. This program has been recognized at the local, state and national level - because its graduates are obtaining good jobs in an industry that doesn't require college degrees or even high school diplomas. ‎Many Hands On @ Hyatt Graduates have been promoted into management positions such as Team Leaders, Supervisors, Managers, and one was promoted to Executive Chef at a large hotel. Important note - this Executive Chef received a Special Diploma in 2003 from Pinellas County Schools. College was not an option for him and he worked very hard for each promotion throughout his 13 year career. In October 2014, Hands On @ Hyatt was recognized by the White House through a program called "Champions of Change"‎. This effective program is successful because all of our partners are focused on our mission and the individuals that we collectively serve. Show less
