Working with the Fashion course at Sheffield Hallam University, I had the amazing opportunity to design the exhibition space for Graduate Fashion Week 2015 alongside a fellow MDes student. The area had to be appropriate for showcasing students portfolios as well as presenting numerous clothing items, business cards, a seating area to chat to potential clients and TV screens showing students work. The brief for the design of the exhibition space was 'mid century modern'. The brief for the design of the exhibition space was 'mid century modern'. Working with a budget on a live project was a challenge, we had to source or design furniture which was appropriate for the space, find lightning which would fit within the buildings structure and source stud walls and scaffolding from suppliers. Through this process I gained skills in working for a demanding client, working and producing work appropriate for contractors and gained knowledge on how large events are organised, assembled and created. This was a very challenging project for a student but it taught me many valuable things. The final outcome of the design was brilliant, the client and students who showcased their work in the space were very happy with the results. We handled the brief appropriately and although the design of the space was bold, it did not divert away from the wonderful fashion pieces which the students were exhibiting. A work placement completed at senior school. Focusing on residential and commercial interior design, I was set tasks to create schemes and mood boards for certain locations. I learnt skills such as scale drawing, sketching, presenting and communicating with colleagues over designs. A work placement completed at senior school.
