I have previously been involved with youth learning services as a workshop facilitator for performance, based classes This has been with a range of age groups and has allowed me to experience working with kids in a structured environment in which organisational skills, tact and empathy were of the highest importance. I was responsible for the making and facilitating of these workshops and therefore hold a PVG membership which has recently been updated. I was responsible for encouraging confidence in the young people I worked with and used the workshops foster a sense of security and friendship amongst its members, which, I believe, is integral in fostering resilience amongst the most vulnerable young people in our society. We were also involved in encouraging the young people to have a sense of autonomy of the groups running and so a youth committee was set up in which we would shadow the young people in their roles and give guidance when needed. This not only gave the young people excellent experience to reference in your CV’s and school applications but also fostered personal responsibility and discipline. Through this post I was able to acquire many skills: • An understanding of child protection policy and protocol. • Organisation skills. • De-escalation Skills. • Hands on experience in learning how to engage young people in organised workshops.
