• Student Parent Support Worker (SPSW)

  I am currently an SPSW at Chebucto Connections as part of the Pathways Canada program. We work with high school students (grades 9-12) in Spryfield. Our objective is to eliminate any barrier that would prevent a child from graduating and highly encouraging post-secondary education. My role is to work closely with the parent and child(ren) and ensuring that the child(ren) have the tools they need to be successful. Our list of supports are (but not limited to): advocacy, scholarships ($500 per year they are in the program), connecting them to mental health supports, tutoring, mentorship, employment opportunities, volunteer experience, consistently checking academics, connecting them to food supports if needed, and most importantly being a consistent adult in their life that wants to see them thrive and grow. The supports we offer are based on the individuals' family needs. Whether their goal is to pursue post-secondary or if they just want to graduate high school we support all their goals and help build self-advocacy/independence as they move forward. It was a program I took advantage of as a youth and something I am grateful to have experience. Show less
