I conducted a study investigating patterns of aggression and affiliation across despotic and tolerant macaque species. I used ad libitum focal follow data collected at the Trentham Monkey Forest, UK, and Cayo Santiago Field Station, Puerto Rico, to analyze aggressive and affiliative patterns in Barbary and rhesus macaques, respectively. Under the mentorship of Dr. Rosemary Bettle and Dr. Alexandra Rosati, I analyzed how aggressive and affiliative patterns varied across these two species with different social styles. Additionally, I independently designed methodology for making a cross species comparison of coalitionary aggression, trained undergraduate peers to assist with data entry, and visualized my data in R studio.Ultimately awarded “With Highest Honors” for my thesis Patterns of Affiliation and Aggression Across Despotic and Tolerant Macaque species Show less
