Kathy Ellington is the kind of person that sees a problem, identifies solutions, then decides on the best path forward. She is an innate systems analyst, and when I met her about seven years ago at the local food bank, her skillset quickly became apparent. Kathy turned out to be the volunteer that: single-handedly (and on her own time) wrote a database management system in Microsoft Access to manage the pantry. spearheaded the center's switch to a tablet-based data collection method that increased accuracy and the center's ability to serve people faster. functioned as a business analyst when the pantry decided to adopt a third-party pantry management system. As I’ve continued to work Kathy, it’s clear she routinely takes ownership of tough problems and sees them through to completion. Kathy's skills would cross over into titles like Data Analyst, Database Analyst, or Business Analyst positions. Some level of Project Manager would also be a fit. Regardless of the starting point, and based on observation, I’d expect Kathy to ramp up quickly in any position she takes on, have a high regard for quality, and become an indispensable member of the organization.

It has been extremely rewarding watching Kathryn make the career leap from Mathematics Education to the Database Design/Development work she's done as a hobby for many years. She's been able to leverage her exemplary logic and problem-solving skills, add in her curiosity about how things work and could be improved, and blend in her creativity and design skills to forge a well-rounded development process of requirements analysis, prototyping, and testing, with feedback and continuous improvement throughout. I'm confident that she'll do well in her new career path, and that she'll find it both challenging and fulfilling.
