Few people in the (prison) education industry possess the qualities of an educator that Jose has. An energised, mature and committed teachers’ trainer, Jose has been the inspiration of new and experienced teachers alike. I have been privileged to work with him on a daily basis in the education department of a major prison and have been the recipient of his crystallised knowledge that he has generously shared with me. Amazingly efficient, Jose has made any project collaboration smooth. Focused on the bigger picture, he has inspired me to see teaching in prison in a different way - as he says ‘it is more than a job’. Often having a nice tan (you know he has been in Portugal), Jose lights up the room and creatively taps on peoples’ positivity with his comments. Any aspiring teacher would be lucky to have Jose as a trainer!

Organised interesting events, recently, in September 2017, "Education and Violence Reduction in Prison". Involved a play performed by prisoners and panel debates with professionals from a variety of areas, such as a lecturer about criminology who had been in prison, a researcher from Open University, HMPPS Head of Reducing Reoffending, somebody from Prison Project RSA, another person from Prisoner's Education Trust and others, including current prisoners. To organise this type of event so successfully was admirable!!!
