I was the program manager of Jorge's volunteer team at Code Nation, where Jorge volunteered 2x/week teaching an after school coding program for students at under-resourced high schools. Jorge is an excellent teammate. He connected with the other volunteers on his team and, most importantly, with the students in the class. When it came to teaching the lessons, Jorge was an excellent communicator and planner. He came prepared each day and had an excellent teaching presence. He gave students thoughtful, real-life examples of how the lesson content connected to careers in technology, helping to inspire students to pursue further learning. Jorge was also an excellent example of lifelong learning as he launched his own site during that time, Alacrán Digital Services. He was an excellent model for students as they began their own coding career pathways.

Jorge is a leader through empathy. He listens to the needs of his team and client, helps see what is needed for both sides and delivers. At K+C Jorge actively participated in on boarding new engineers to the company, immediately setting them up for success. On our client project he ran our technical circle to share ideas and make sure everyone was listened to. Not only is he a leader but he’s a technical wizard. For example, he helped the team deliver a video streaming solution by working out the complexities and building robust code. Jorge is a joy to work with and I hope to work with him again.
