Senior Strategist for Community Organizing
-
Aug 2014 - Apr 2016
I situated grassroots community organizing as a mission-critical strategic goal and programmatic area of work by creating and growing the PIH Engage program. PIH Engage is building the right to health movement by recruiting, training, and enabling teams of dedicated volunteer community organizers. These teams drive year-long campaigns focused on building the power to advance the right to health.- Grew PIH Engage from a mere concept to more than 90 strong, volunteer-led teams with over 4,000 active members within college campuses, professional communities, and networks of friends around the world.- Developed a business model that allowed the overall budget of PIH Engage to expand to nearly $400k in expenses and generated more than $700k in annual grassroots campaign revenue.- Orchestrated the nonprofit merger between FACE AIDS (student-driven global health organization) and PIH Engage, successfully enabling the FACE AIDS chapters to integrate into the broader PIH campaigns.- Built relationships with a network of global health and social justice advocacy organizations, and paved the way for new Partners In Health-led grassroots advocacy campaigns.

We created a community organizing strategy that builds leadership around the common idea that the poor deserve quality health care, strengthens community around that leadership, and draw world-changing power from that community. We sought to organize current PIH supporters to raise funds, critically analyze global health issues, and advocate on behalf of the poor and marginalized.Through this work, we aim to strengthen a movement for health and social justice that universalizes the notion that the poor deserve quality health care.
