John is a phenomenal talent partner for our early-stage team. We've been working together for the past year and a half, and in that short time he has been instrumental to our startup, having sourced and placed a range of our critical engineering roles across our stack. He's a clear communicator with a bias toward action, prioritizes building deep and meaningful relationships with both hiring managers and candidates, finds joy in his work even when it's tough, and pitches our company better than we can. If you have the fortune of collaborating with John to build out your team, take the opportunity — you're in great hands!

John always gives 150% to every team he works with and makes everyone feel like they have a real heavyweight in their corner. He's able to provide insight into the details like what would be most important to a candidate to close the hire, as well as how we can strategically build the team to set us up for success. It's been a privilege to work with John and looking forward to our continued partnership!

Now known as The General Partnership Sweat Equity Ventures is a Value Accelerator, a new kind of investor that invests expertise and time in exchange for equity. Collectively, we are a team of highly experienced operators; entrepreneurs and technologists; founders with decades of building highly successful companies, launching products used by millions, and creating billions of dollars in commercial value. Privileged to be one of the first 3 employees in bringing this investment model to market. Here are my active and completed searches: CTO, Head of Marketing, Head of Design, Principal Engineer, Founding Engineer, several types of functional leads, and several types of senior individual contributors spanning engineering, product, design and occasionally business. Initially hired to recruit Production Engineering (SRE) Managers. Greatly exceeded expectations by overdelivering on recruiting goals and making outsized impact. My sourcing strategy focused on finding hidden gems. I was considered a PE SME because of my knowledge and ability to dig in technically. My funnel conversion rates were the highest on the team. Additionally, served as the D&I team lead. Partnered with women engineering executives and diversity program managers to plan, organize, and host re-occurring leadership networking events. Helped plan and facilitate FB's 1st ever org-wide Sourcing Summit. Spearheaded a data-driven approach to continuously improve the PE interview process and candidate experience. Later, I joined the exec search (Director/VP) team. We covered Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp with a focus on software, infrastructure, AI, and applied machine learning. Lots of market mapping, researching, deck building, talking to stakeholders, cross-pollinating with other teams, and partnering closely with executives. I left Facebook because an opportunity too compelling to pass up came calling. Also closed a top priority search on my way out. Facebook experienced rapid growth in 2 years going from 20k -> 40k employees. Show less

Initially hired to recruit senior software engineers for Uber's new maps engineering org, including teams such as location search engine, maps data, routing & navigation, maps display & tools, and sensing & perception. Promoted in less than a year for greatly exceeding expectations. Stabilized a high priority recruiting initiative that previously struggled to get satisfactory traction. Built a new tool to generate data reports and dashboards for recruiting insights, which was later adopted by other teams. Mentored individuals from various teams. Experimented with various recruiting channels that organically resulted in 30% of personally sourced hires being under-represented minority people, while still maintaining high throughput of overall hires made. Later got tapped on the shoulder to be an early member of an elite team tasked with spinning up and owning centralized eng management recruiting. Interfaced with a number of individuals and leaders to build a full mental model of the entire org structure. Put together playbooks and led org-wide training workshops for 50+ recruiters and sourcers. Partnered with L&D to roll out new courses based on a syllabus I designed from the ground up. In 2017, recruiting started to stall (hiring freezes) and it was clear hypergrowth was done. I learned that Facebook had plans to double in 2 years, so I was excited to test myself at one of the premier tech companies in Silicon Valley. Uber experienced rocketship growth in 2016 going from 5k -> 14k employees. Show less

Co-founded a boutique staffing agency. We worked with early stage startups on their hardest talent searches across engineering, product, design, and executive leadership. Initially bootstrapped the business while working out of a co-working space in San Francisco, but as the business and team grew, we signed a lease for a high rise building in Downtown Oakland. Wore many hats, built many processes and systems from the ground up, and scaled the business. Primarily led the recruiting function, built and mentored a small team of recruiters, and managed internal business operations (office management / IT & vendor management / bookkeeping / HR & payroll / people management). After a few exciting years, I left the firm in the good hands of my business partner, so I could go learn how recruiting worked on the other side (in-house) at a generational startup. The firm was acquired 1 year later. Show less

Straight out of college, joined a one year-old staffing agency getting off the ground. Recruited web developers for clients. Promoted in less than a year to manage accounts in the gaming domain. Grateful for the opportunity, met great people, but I had a different view on how things should run and decided to take a bet on myself. Supported various HR projects (market research, worker satisfaction, comp & benefits) for a non-profit that provided supplemental educational programs to K-12 students in the Bay Area. Did some pro-bono graphic design and photography work as well. Used Excel, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and my DSLR camera.
