Contract Engineer working on geotechnical report writing, including earthquake damage, liquefaction assessments, waste/stormwater design. I have also been working with the Resource Consent team completing resource consent applications for waste water and excavation applications. This has been a great opportunity to transfer my skills from the Uk into the NZ format of testing, the implications of earthquakes and the resource managment act. At Invercargill city council I was hired on a short term contract to help the infrastructure team map and manage a number of contaminated land sites. I reported direct to the infrastructure manager. I helped the team manage risk and prioritise works. I worked on a number of high profile sites and managed consultants undertaking works. I dealt with reports of natural asbestos being imported from quarry sites, resource consent applications for sludges and children parks built on petrochemical sites. During my time at Invercargill the team became aware of my mountain biking background and I was asked to work with the parks manager to develop a trail network plan for sandy point, a very popular and environmentally sensitive recreation area in Invercargill. I was also fortunate enough to work with Southland Mountain Bike Club and developed a trail master plan for Bluff Hill as part of the overall Bluff tourism development plan. This plan was then used by RideLine consulting, Invercargill City Council and Great South to apply for a tourism infrastructure fund which they were successful. The project was aware $981,380.
