I was Deputy Chairman 2001 - 2003 and Chairman 2003 - 2005. I took on the chairmanship in May 2015 for a second two-year period which has now come to an end. I am delighted to remain on the group committee as it comprises representatives who are committed to doing everything they can to share their extensive experience. That led to chairing the Dematerialisation Steering Group (DSG), set up in conjunction with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), which is looking at the most effective way to remove the need for UK listed companies to issue share certificates, nor require them for sales and transfers. Sadly, the resource constraints of BREXIT, has led to BEIS 'pausing' their active involvement in this project but the DSG will continue to work on the practicalities, awaiting the resumption of formal progress.
