Jim Waggoner

Jim is one of the most talented engineers that I have had the opportunity to work with in my career. He is an amazing team player. He Is always customer first. He thinks about implementing capabilities from a full end to end solution perspective. When I was in QA, it was a challenge to find defects in his code. As a product manager, I really wanted him working on those next gen features. I was just saying the other day that if his resume ever came across my inbox I would hire him on the spot with no questions asked beyond

I worked with Jim for 2.5 years. For 1.5 years of that time, he was a team member on the team for which I was the Scrum Master. Jim was the only team member that worked at a remote location. There were two things that stand out about Jim: he made the best of any task, and he communicated just the right amount. Jim was an architect on the team, and everyone valued his opinion. He excelled at designing solid applications and writing code. Additionally, he would happily do any task that needed to be done to meet the deliverable: to write tests for someone else, to perform manual tests, to unblock someone, and to trouble shoot and fix bugs. He was a team player, and took pride in helping to get the team to complete the deliverable. It was great to have a team member be willing and able to participate in any task that needed completing. He was based in a different location, and he was always available at any time of day. We have offices around the world, and often had impromptu calls in the evenings or early mornings. He was always available for these. His emails, conference calls, and presentations conveyed just the right level of detail for the audience. Jim has a strong combination of technical and communication skills. It was a joy to work with Jim, and I would embrace any opportunity to be on a team with him again.

Xailient is an AI software company that specializes in putting computer vision on impossibly small devices and chips (edge). Xailient built the world's smallest object detector (44 KB CNN). We can fit on extremely tiny devices running very low power. Our software can run face recognition on a coin cell for a year, provide always-on intelligent motion detection to reduce annoying false alarms, or focus and zoom on regions of interest to boost accuracy (just like animal vision), reducing your cost of scaling your Computer Vision. ⦁ Delivered numerous facial recognition solutions on tiny embedded camera devices where traditional computer vision models like YOLO simply could not fit. ⦁ Worked with Palantir Technologies Inc to get Xailient computer vision models running on satellites. ⦁ Re-architected existing AWS Lambda and EC2 based backend to leverage docker to improve testability, velocity, comprehensibility. ⦁ Implemented CI practices across the company's code base. ⦁ Improved repo coverage and code coverage by >10x across production code. Verticals: Chip Companies, Retail, Security and Homecams, Access Control and Others. Show less

⦁ Reduced time to provision copy of multi-terabyte databases to a few hours instead of a few weeks. Using agile development, in 6 months delivered new SaaS product that allowed customers to deploy self-service copies of multi-terabyte databases for test & dev purposes in hours instead weeks that it commonly takes within companies that involves coordination across system admins, DBAs, storage admins. ⦁ Lead automated testing effort for aforementioned product. ⦁ Fostered a collaborative atmosphere whereby less emphasis was placed on distinct roles and more was put on learning enough to fix any problem that a scrum team encountered ⦁ Scrum master for a team spread across 5 time zones while also performing as a team contributor. ⦁ Built Python, OpenSSL, gcc and more from source code as part of porting and certifying the product on Solaris ⦁ Environment: Linux, Docker, Solaris, Windows, Python, Java, C/C++, git, Perforce, Jenkins, Artifactory, Robot test framework, Selenium Show less

⦁ Hands-on architect for Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP), a world class 24x7 internet security product⦁ Provided high-level design and guidance; designed, wrote code where it made the most impact.⦁ Reduced memory used by SEP by 60% in several weeks.⦁ Drastically improved startup times of Symantec Endpoint Protection (hard numbers have been lost to history but techniques can be shared upon request)⦁ Increased by >500% the number of reliable, fully automated, cross platform end-to-end product tests in ~6 months.⦁ Reduced inter-process communication (IPC) implementations in SEP by 75%. Designed a secure standardized IPC implementation for SEP that replaced a hodgepodge of 4 different IPC techniques resulting in dramatically simplified code as well as increased reliability.⦁ Designed, implemented and successfully "sold" the team on a modular design pattern to plug new protection technologies into SEP thus avoiding having to touch much older legacy code as new features were added.⦁ Environment: Windows, C/C++, C#, Powershell, Microsoft Visual Studio, Perforce Show less
