In my job I enjoy helping nurses, physicians, and other clinical staff operate the electronic medical record (EPIC). Every day I submit changes to make our record easier to use and safer for the patient. I am passionate about process improvement and feel strongly that status quo is never good enough, always striving for the next best idea or workflow. Everyone wonders what an informatics nurse does, the answer is not quite so simple. Mainly because I dabble in so many areas: policy, education, IT, consulting, and quality / process improvement. I make a contribution everyday by combining nursing, information, and computer science to acheive the best results in today's healthcare work environment. Sounds pretty cool right? That's because it is : ) I am always interested in mentoring new masters nursing students interested in the field.
