After watching Jamie Krug's J2EE presentation at cf.Objective() - ColdFusion's most prestigious conference - I immediately hired him to help me set up a robust, local ColdFusion development environment for work. In an email or two, I explained our company's development needs and agreed upon a time to meet (screen-share). Jamie showed up to our first meeting with thorough documentation and a codified plan of attack outlining how to solve my problem. I found out that Jamie had, before our meeting, set up a Virtual Machine mimicking my environment such that he could work out the exact process required ahead of time. Due to his professional preparation and in-depth understanding, it took us just two hours to set up Apache and a JRUN server running multiple instances of ColdFusion complete with unique domain names and configuration files. This would have taken much less time had I not been assailing him with a string of questions about the process. All in all, not only do I now have a great development environment, thanks to Jamie's hands-on approach, I now feel much more empowered when it comes to knowing how J2EE servers work. The only real question that remains is, how can my company more effectively leverage Jamie's know-how going forward?
