After 1 year away from the Risk Insurance industry, i moved back to the old stomping ground of ING. ANZ had just gone through the acquisition of ING and quickly became to be known as OnePath Life. I was employed into the New Business Team where i started to learn about the nitty gritty of the industry and the application process.I was responsible for formal Offer of Terms, Issuing of policies and basic pipeline management. Here, i was able to deepen my knowledge on product, process timelines and requirements, broker requirements and strict timelines. Becoming a point of contact for a handful of advisers helped me understand the requirements for an adviser whilst working for an insurer. Being punctual, factual and learning the importance of time management and constant communication was imperative in ensuring i was successful in this role. It was the progression into the senior role in mid 2012 which is where i was able to learn in depth about the products on offer, our competitors products and the comparisons. Returning to OnePath was the most important decision i have made to date. Without this role, my in depth knowledge of product, internal processes and requirements would not allow me to provide a point of difference when speaking with a client today. It is this knowledge and experience which has allowed me to set and provide expectations for both myself, my client and for the insurer; whoever that may be.

I moved into the domestic insurance industry to broaden my knowledge in the Insurance field. I started in the New Business team responsible for issuing of policies, renewals, and a point of contact for Westpac branch personal. I quickly moved into the Underwriting team where i was responsible for real-time underwriting. Our turnaround requirement initially was inside 5 minutes as the client was seated with the banker at the time. Through this, i was able to learn about the general insurance industry, what an insurer looks for in an application and how to commercially underwrite (at a basic level). Being clear and concise, prompt and confident in my knowledge and delivery were important skills which i harnessed during this time. After a period of 14 months, i was easily convinced to return to the Life Insurance industry and grow my knowledge. It was at this point i realised my passion for risk insurance and the logistics that went on behind the scenes.

I was hired as a part of the Night Team at ING which at the time, was responsible for loading all new applications received, into the processing system to allow a 24 hour turnaround form application submission to underwriting. This is where i learnt about the Insurance Industry and the background operations of an insurance company. Data Entry, Telephone Underwriting, system testing, scanning, policy document checking and compiling were all tasks of the job. It is the small points from this job which has helped me significantly to date.
