Los Angeles Metropolitan Area RADAR, Inc. provided me the chance to further develop management and communication skills. Upon starting at the firm I was given the task to manage five active projects. A couple were in plan check and needed to be resubmitted and the rest were in the construction phase. Staying sharp was key to handle the inflow of emails and phone calls. Time management and organization skills were continuously being tested and I now feel like I can take on any project that comes my way. Upon starting at Ralph Mechur Architects I became comfortable enough to produce architectural plans in preparation for city submittal, developed communication skills to coordinate plan check corrections, and push plans through to final permitting. With that came the experience to further develop permitted plans and produce construction documents and the ability to manage a project during construction. Ralph Mechur Architects had projects ranging from single family residential, multi family residential, & commercial projects. Show less

Tasks included researching commercial spaces and learning about the different types of equipment needed for these spaces such as, ventilation, drainage, sanitation, countertop clearances, and the usual sheet layouts and how they differ from residential plans. I had the opportunity to develop design features and compiling inspiration boards down to the last color and textile that we proposed. A lot of times manufacturers did not have equipment or items that we can just use, we had to design things such as sneeze guards, countertops, display cases, lounge seating, and even shelving that did not exist. meaning we customized hardware for the contractors to build. Towards the end of my position at NCA, I was proud to say that I was transitioning to become a project coordinator. This meant I would begin to take on the task of managing projects on my own. If there is one thing I would like to advance on, is become a project coordinator. Show less

Aside from modeling projects, I would coordinate with the general contractors on any of the handful of ongoing construction projects in order to clarify any questions they may have. All the while, taking on the task of picking up plans from the city, taking care of plan check corrections, coordinating with plan checkers, and re-submitting sets of drawings to meet clearances and eventually get RTI. Meeting city clearances can definitely have its challenges. Show less
