  Looked after the corporate internet provisioning and usage billing and reporting systems. This was based on Cisco Netflow, SNMP and a bit of RADIUS on a Python and C code base. There were also user web interfaces into this. The processing of all the customer IP connections produced large volumes of data that was always a challenge to process and store. Made various changes and performance improvements over the years, including adding distributed processing into the mix, porting from Sparc to i386, and multi-threading. Recent projects have been Java web services oriented and an excursion into android programming.

  Consulting all sorts. This was a varied role which included Customer pre-sales, site installations of UNIX systems, NT systems, Routers, Firewalls, VPN's, Software and Security audits. There was some software development, including an e-commerce web site of questionable repute. There was also an ISP in the form of Planet Internet for which I administered the systems, routers, web hostings, DNS, email and developed software and provided support as needed.   Started work just at the time the Universities were getting connected to the Internet. The University was also installing new fiber around the campus. I managed the TCP/IP configurations and UNIX systems and network services for the University. Designed an early form of dynamic web by embedding code into web pages which got a dedicated chapter in a published book. Provided student dialup access with kerberos authentication into student record system with jailed curses based Internet based applications. Developed some pub domain utilities such as a search engine and text to html converter.
