I had the honor and privilege of working with Hans van der Reijden for 5 great years. I have to say there are few General Managers/Managing Directors within the hotel industry around the world that I came across who were even a close second in creating excellence like Hans was able to do. Hans' leadership skills are unmatched. Employees who work for Hans love working for him, strive to create excellence under him, and would follow him virtually anywhere. THAT is the key to leadership. Getting people to do things at a level that they wouldn't normally do on their own AND love doing it in the process. When Hans came on-board at West Paces, the Hotel and the joint co-op hotel program at Auburn was in its infancy. Under his leadership after 7 to 8 years, the hotel operation and educational partnership with Auburn University came to be know as a premier national program with an unparalleled reputation in the town of Auburn as the leading service and hospitality example for the city. In addition, the offering of educational opportunities to students grew to world-wide opportunities. Much of that was due to Hans' leadership, work ethic, and the wonderful ladies and gentlemen that he and his leaders were able to attract to work in the hotel. Whoever has the opportunity to work with Hans in the future - consider yourselves fortunate. I was blessed to have spent that time working with him and getting to know him.
