This is a gift shop in the heart of Gettysburg, and is often one of the first stops people make when they visit the town. It is my job to give them great customer service and attend to anything they may need, while also keeping sales in mind. I practice cleaning technique and run the cash register. I also open and close the store, and carry a key. This is a gift shop in the heart of Gettysburg, and is often one of the first stops people make when they visit the town. The Growing Place gave me such an opportunity to do just as the name says, to grow in my career. As a psychology major in college, I have such a passion for children and watching them grow and succeed into the amazing human beings that they are capable of becoming. I had many job assignments at the Growing Place. I was a floating teacher, which means I am able to be in any room at any time I’m needed to fill in for a teacher. I had learned every child’s name very quickly and they all learned mine because I went to every room. I built a strong relationship with the children and their parents, building a trusting relationship between us to make communicating with them about their child easier. I was also an assistant teacher, which means that I ran my own classroom along with another teacher. This was the afterschool classroom, where I went to go pick up the children off the bus and then had them in my care until their parents came to pick them up. I assisted them with tasks such as homework, and gave them a snack. I also performed basic sanitizing duties and tasks to keep the children healthy and safe. Show less

When this was my only job, I was a sales person, meaning that my goal was customer experience and sales. It was a part of my responsibilities to demo new and old products to customers, find out personal information about my customers and what things I could help them find, and helping them get through the cash register and out the door in a time efficient manner. I was then moved to a floor set associate when I took on another job. This job meant I was still faithful to this company even with another job, and I was used about twice a month to help them move around product and shelving in the store over night when they received new inventory. As a hostess, it was my job to be the first face customers saw when they walked through the door. I always greeted customers with a smile and found them a place to sit where they would be comfortable. I also sometimes helped the waitresses by getting the customers drinks and bringing the fresh bread to their table. This was a great first job for me, it taught me the whole idea of customer service and how to make sure that the experience of the customer was the best it could possibly be. I ran the cash register, helped open and close the store, and also cleaned the store and restocked product.
