    • Presenter for Dubai Eye 103.8 FM
      • Feb 2016 - Jan 2021

Dubai Eye 103.8 FM is the foremost talk radio station in the Middle East. The breakfast show is considered appointment viewing for business leaders and opinion formers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Presenter for The Agenda & Afternoons with Helen Farmer The Agenda is a phone-in programme, and Afternoons is a magazine format lifestyle show. I regularly host these three-hour programmes when the regular presenters are away. Responsibilities include idea conception, guest suggestions, presenting and driving the desk. Producer of The Business Breakfast Programme The programme has three presenters, and when there are absences, I filled in on air. More regularly, I worked as the morning producer, controlling the output of the programme. This role involved editing the content and presenter contributions, and ensuring the three-hour show keeps to time. I also juggled social media obligations, competitions, guest greeting, brief taking and the many other admin tasks associated with a live programme. I also travelled as a roving reporter for the station – to Yinchuan in China, London and Bangkok. While away, I reported live into the programme, and prepared packages, recorded interviews, and wrote articles for the Dubai Eye website and social media accounts. Show less

    • Day Editor / Senior Producer for The World Tonight
      • Apr 2006 - Dec 2015

The World Tonight is the BBC’s flagship international radio news programme with an audience of nearly two million listeners. I worked on the programme for seven years, in several roles. Day Editor - Sept 2012 to June 2014 - In this role, I led a team of five, and the live programme broadcast at 10pm was my responsibility. I was required to analyse the news agenda of the day, and to host editorial meetings. With the help of the producers, I chose the stories we covered, the angle we took, and the guests we interviewed. I oversaw pre-recorded interviews and packages, edited scripts, and put all the pieces of the jigsaw together to create the live programme. On air responsibilities included: guiding the presenter on content and nature of questions; juggling timings; and ensuring bulletins and signposts happened on time. Daily responsibilities included: attending senior editorial meetings; keeping the website up to date; and managing social media interaction. Planning Editor - April 2007 to June 2014 - I regularly subbed in for the Planning Editor, while she was away, taking responsibility for all forward planning for the programme. This role involved delegating work to producers, commissioning packages from across the BBC, editing correspondents’ scripts, planning future projects, liaising on multimedia projects and representing the programme at senior editorial meetings. Field Producer - April 2007 to June 2014 - In this role I travelled with correspondents to Turkey, Ireland, Italy and across the UK, booking guests, producing interviews and editing longer form packages. I spent a month working in the Brussels bureau on European stories – an exciting time, as it was the start of the Euro-crisis. Producer for Today, The World at One & PM, BBC R4 - While working for Radio 4, I was frequently seconded over to the other news programmes. My knowledge of international news & extensive contact book proved useful during the start of the Arab Spring. Show less
