Every so often in life you come across someone who actually lives his or her passion and beliefs. Francesca is one of those very rare people. She has a vision and delivers on it. She started out in the media business and was incredibly successful in sales and that’s a tough environment. However, the plight of wild animals being slaughtered in Africa has led her to start her own charity and seek new and innovative solutions to those complex problems. As someone in her late twenties it has taken courage and a steep learning curve to understand and implement win-win solutions that benefit all the key stakeholders from the animals themselves to the farmers whose crops are being raided on a regular basis. She’s an inspiration. Check out her website: wildsurvivors.org

Wild Survivors is a small charity with huge ambitions to protect and preserve the elephants in Tanzania. Sadly, the insatiable demand for ivory is driving a catastrophic decline in the elephant population. Human-elephant conflict is a continued threat to both the endangered elephants and rural communities. This charity is taking a focused three-pronged approach to facilitating coexistence, preserving vital forest reserves, and halting the decline of the elephant population. As the founder I devote all my time and resources to the running of this charity, in order to have maximum impact on reversing the decimation of the elephants and wild animals of Tanzania. Show less

People buy from people, and this is the dedicated model we continue to promote amongst the team. Customers often think they know what they want but there are always questions and niggling doubts. We never see a sale as final. People grow and technology changes. My role is to educate and support my customers and my team. No one gets it right every time but we strive to go well beyond the ‘Least Effort Principle’. A happy customer returns to us. Our industry is ruled by the perception of price. From the newbie buying a Canon C300 to a major broadcaster wanting a new studio there is always the issue of price. Pricing is another illusion because if the purchase doesn’t do the job then the cost is massive. Understanding the customer and their needs is key. It seems obvious and we always try to delight them. Supplying the media industry with broadcasting equipment, alongside advice and support with new kit releases and the development of relationships with clients. My role at Visuals incorporates listening and advising clients, account management, and working closely with manufacturers to ensure an efficient and creative approach when recommending new equipment to diverse sectors of the industry, to match their style of shoot or studio set-up. I’ve developed an advanced understanding of current broadcast cameras, audio, lighting and workflow, for both studio and field based by interacting on a daily basis with industry professionals to meet their equipment needs and vision for new productions. This means exploring new technical skills with camera equipment, from run and gun, handheld, to shoulder mounted and studio based kit together with suggestions for vital accessories and workflow considerations. Clients rely on me to have the knowledge and information not only about current equipment in the marketplace but also a good idea of what’s coming around the next corner. I work very hard to ensure that I can provide the best information and value in a timely way. Show less

Working as a Production Assistant within a busy and demanding studio environment. I quickly developed new skills in pre and post-production, to ensure that meticulous eye to detail and a fast pace of communication between departments was achieved. Responsibilities included: organising materials, strategic planning, co-ordinating people on set and the preparation of essential equipment. I was also given the opportunity to assist in post; overseeing and becoming involved with the edits, to ensure the brief was being met. I worked on a variety of productions spanning advertising campaigns, shorts and individual creative projects. This gave for a real insight into the unrelenting yet rewarding environment of a production and facilities company. Show less

Stringer on site during the night of the general election 2010, I worked closely with the team back in the office to report back with regular updates and developments throughout the night from Gloucester – a marginal seat. I successfully delivered accurate information on the winner of this seat back to the studio, before journalists from the BBC and ITV did so, thus allowing Sky to announce the result before other networks were able to.
