Evan Zachary

I work to direct a small nonprofit housed within the Rochester Public Market which Evan helps to manage. Simply put, without Evan's tireless advocacy, positive attitude, and critical and creative eye it would be a lot harder for us to achieve our mission. To us, he is our #1 ally within the City of Rochester and The Rochester Public Market as a whole. A sweeping passion for social justice and a willingness, even eagerness, to work to support projects outside of his work hours have made him an invaluable person to both myself as the Director but to our organization, Flower City Pickers, as a whole.

Through "My Community: What's the Plan?" I engage youth of all ages and from all walks of life in a lively, interactive, informative and inspiring introduction to the concepts/issues/process/ science/politics of community planning, design, and development. Underpinned by my belief that youth can and should be involved in community planning and development, and that this area of civic education is under-attended if not virtually absent, I set out at the outset of the new millennium to design and deploy a simple but effective role play/simulation introductory activity that can be customized to any youth group and time period! Over the years I've conducted many, many of these workshops and have been thrilled at their effectiveness in building interest in and knowledge of community planning!
