Program Assistant

After volunteering with the Kids' Kitchen program for a number of months, which supports children living in the Downtown Eastside neighbourhood by teaching the basics of cooking, the opportunity arose to continue as a Program Assistant. In this position, I help the Program Lead in organizing the meals we create, finding ways of integrating nutrition into the program, and ensuring that the participants have a fulfilling experience. My work at the Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood House goes beyond the Kids' Kitchen program. I currently also assist with their other food security programs, including their recent urban farm development. This lot has created fresh produce which is then used in the hundreds of meals served weekly at the Neighbourhood House. I have been tasked with developing a business plan in which we will be able to increase funds for the Neighbourhood House through the sale of the produce. Using my marketing expertise, I have developed and maintained a seasonal newsletter with the goal of educating supporters and raising additional funds for our programs. This includes the creation of blog content. I am also assisting in the writing of grant applications.

Community Relations Co-op

The Community Relations team is responsible for a large part of YVR’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, including investing $1.2 million into local organizations, organizing volunteer events for staff, and implementing an employee giving program. The team also provides event support for the Airport Authority and business partners, as well as create content related to, or in collaboration with our community partners.In my role, I assisted with the implementation of YVR’s community investment programs including evaluating incoming requests for support, drafting sponsorship agreements and coordinating content creation to showcase partners. I helped execute YVR’s employee volunteering and giving programs through coordination of internal employee posts and leading volunteering opportunities on day of I provided engaging tours of the terminal through the Explorer Tour program to a wide range of members in the community. I planned and supported various YVR events including the Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up, Quest Holiday Hamper Drive, and the YVR float at the Vancouver Pride Parade. I lead the Canucks Autism Network and YVR Accessibility Tour from the communications side.
