Beyond his being a highly capable manager I find Diego to be a consummate geek (in the best of possible ways). The ability to work with him on technical infrastructure projects, seek his advice on a myriad of technical subjects, and simply enjoy talking about his latest excuse to whip out a soldering iron has certainly enriched my working life. Simply put, Diego is a socially and professionally adept variant of the classic engineer in a shed brought into the 21st century.

In December 2022, I accepted a three year term with the Board of Directors for the MacAdmins Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organisation that exists in order to advance the global community of people who manage Apple devices at large and small scales. Launched in May of 2022, based on a community begun in 2015, the MacAdmins Foundation runs conference and training scholarships for Mac Admins all over the world, in addition to running the MacAdmins Slack, a free collaboration platform of more than 50,000 members. In July, I joined GitHub to bootstrap their EMEA Support function, and bring on new talent and process as we transition from a reactive support model to an agile and TDD based preemptive maintenance focus. During this time I’ve completed the refurbishment of our Oxford location, worked with our IT Engineering Hubbers to stand up and migrate operations from an acquired team to GitHub’s internal infrastructure. I participated in driving the Endpoint Management program, performed testing and code review with Engineering and Security, and also brought on new headcount for the EMEA support roles. In addition to this, I’ve also mentored and supported a report in a recent move to the IT Engineering team through coaching, personal development time, and creating opportunities to pair on the tech stack of our existing offices. In December 2019, VMware acquired Pivotal Software for $2.7 Bn, and I was part of the team chosen to stay on to aid in the integration efforts. This has continued to form the basis of my day to day work, as well as picking up the EMEA-wide integration efforts for our other recently joined Business Units in the form of CarbonBlack and SaltStack amongst others. I additionally managed and oversaw the integrations of the existing physical security systems in the global estate, bringing some 16 offices and co-working locations into a unified HID badging service, backed by AD and Workday for automated provisioning and access levels. Negotiated enhanced global procurement & service agreements with key vendors, resulting in circa 30% savings YoY, while converting CapEx to OpEx for streamlined financial operations & end user experience. Negotiated separate mobility plans & pricing for EMEA specific services, creating an overall model to provide telephony & data. separate from the BYOD model used in the Americas. Engaged & consulted with external customers in Discovery & Framing, building interdisciplinary teams for Digital Transformation. Enabled the business to win new contracts & work in EMEA via a “seat at the table” from a tech & ops perspective, showing how we used our own methodologies & frameworks. Supported Business Ops across EMEA for compliance & remediation in preparation for the eventual company IPO in April 2018. Led a small skunkworks engineering team to develop & deploy fully automated deployment for user endpoints, initially across EMEA & then later deploying out to the East Coast / Central & finally, Canadian & West regions. Partnered with Senior HR Leadership & process owners in EMEA to streamline Strategically Aligned Businesses from former Federation companies to simplify on/off-boarding for colleagues when joining or leaving internal BUs, providing the same High Touch process that all external New Hires would receive. Led an initiative to replace Physical Security badging systems, building custom connectors allowing us to stand up Workday enabled provisioning & de-provisioning of access controls, badges, automated GSOC escalations, & video surveillance for the Flagship EMEA office, which was later rolled into a global priority for our CISO & Directs. Worked with other IT leaders to build & implement new IT Job Family specifications, enabling teams to progress with their development & aspirations. Built an all-new recruiting process with HRBPs to enable a diverse, safe, & respectful team, encompassing non-typical hires, a process later rolled out & adopted by other regions. Show less

Responsible for the well being of our European and Middle Eastern operations within the remit of IT and Infrastructure with offices from London to Dubai, working in close partnership with the Dell EMC Technologies family and Federation companies. Supported organizational expansion into EMEA, and directly involved in new office planning, expansion, and the execution of our business model, while reporting directly to our Business Directors and C Level staff. Responsible for Project Management of our flagship EMEA office build from an IT, Infrastructure, and Systems perspective. Lead a European Zero Touch Provisioning initiative for End User IT, and reduced operational costs across the region for new hires, with "just in time" hardware provisioning, and automated system activations. Migrated the region away from long lead time, static systems that relied on manual triggers, and took average new starter provisioning from six weeks to under a day. While based in London, I have been fortunate enough to travel extensively with the company, and have supported and lead projects in both the East and West US Coasts, as well across our expanding European operations. I am also responsible for all new EMEA offices, working closely with our Federation partners and Facilities teams to bring up entire offices and locations where once there stood nothing but ancient, waterfall practice.
