I had the amazing opportunity to curate the Cheese and Meat Department selections for a brand new specialty store in Monterey, California. This beautiful new store blended my experience with my values. Vibrant luscious groceries, produce, meat and specialty wellness products with a focus on local, under-represented and sustainable small producers. I was responsible for: - sourcing, researching, buying and curating all the cheeses, charcuterie and meat selections. I had the wonderful opportunity to showcase these high quality items in this beautiful store. I also created all the SOPs and training for the staff in the two departments. Training of the staff included: product knowledge, customer service, technical skills in cutting and wrapping cheese and meat to sell to customer. Researching and sourcing high quality products that are also raised well was a big part of the job. Regenerative, local and high quality products were the features. Elroy's loves to provide special orders and catering to the high level clientel. I helped launch the very popular cheese and charcuterie platters. I developed a following for special or hard to find cuts of fresh meat. I loved the aspect of building relationships with small producers in the area. I learned about them and how they produced their fine products. Performed the duties of: - receiving and coding of invoices - setting prices to reflect desired margins - entering retail items into the POS system accurately - writing verbiage and descriptions for the merchandise cases - taking photos for social media to boost sales - maintaining facilitiy cleanliness, safety and maintenence. I sold everything in Seattle and quit my job to travel in an RV and work and learn on small family farms around the USA. Jumping into roles, learning new skills, working with a novel team all have become more comfortable for me. Most of my time was spent on a small goat dairy farm. I tended to the health of the goats, daily milking, making cheese, helping with kidding, trimimng hooves, bottling milk, making handmade goat milks soaps and all the other many things that go into a working goat farm. I loved it! Show less
