Derek is an energetic, intelligent, and calculated person. He knows what he intends to do with his time, talents, and treasures. Because of this, he is able to help his clients navigate their own path. You will never regret working with, or spending time with Derek.

Derrick worked for our office for three years. He is a energetic contributor who would make a great addition to any team. Throughout the internship, Derrick completed his assignments on time and proactively looked for ways to assist the office staff. I would recommend him for any position, as he naturally rises to the occasion when presented with something he is passionate about.

      • Oversaw month-end close in entirety for E&S Services and their acquired company, Ely's Professional Tree Services, including but not limited to all month-end close entries, putting together the financials, presenting the financials to C-Suite executives, accruals, creating and reconciling the bank (bank reconciliation), and much more (with minimal supervision).• Managed Ely's Professional Tree Service as their lead accountant, including running all AP/AR, journal entries, tax inquiries, tax payments, tax filing, payroll creation, implementation, filing, and more, while maintaining my full-time workload as E&S' Controller. I have also been a huge part of direct meetings with their C-Suite executives, discussing marketing strategies, cost cutting and budgeting, all the way down to going to the bank for them to manage their deposits and check-cutting.• Created the AP/AR system for E&S Services, transitioning years-worth of paper billing into my own digital database, which sped up the process of collecting millions of dollars-worth of AR and allowed E&S to get 100% caught up on their bills within my first 60 days of employment. AR went from $1,500,000 outstanding to under $700,000 within my first 90 days of employment. AP went from $100,000 in 30-90 days past due to $0 within my first 90 days.• Led the implementation of the company's new ERP system, as well as training all employees on their new duties, including but not limited to the fieldworkers (PO and Inventory training), accountants (AP/AR & Close training), and C-Suite execs (system management), all while maintaining my own workload, Ely's workload, and doing so with zero supervision. I also tripled my workload, earned multiple bonuses, led financial meetings for E&S by my own voice, and always arrived on time for work other than two traffic-related instances.

      • Utilized two separate ERP/SAP systems to complete month-end close functions, including but not limited to amortization schedules, depreciation schedules, accrued expense entries, P&L analysis, Balance Sheet analysis, and closed AP/AR for three separate entities, analyzing multiple AP/AR reports while supervising all work done by AP/AR co-workers.• Maintained constant contact with BOMs, Admins, and my direct supervisor while closing the month, as I was their constant point of contact for questions related to month-end close and the budget’s results against monthly expectations.• Did not miss a day for the first six months, volunteered to take on the workload of my co-workers consistently, exceeded expectations by doubling my workload before 6 months, and received multiple raises with the first being after six months of employment.

      - Worked directly under our CFO (CPA) to assist in Month-End Close duties such as amortization schedules, prepaid expenses, aging reports, expense account entries, and completed the monthly P+Ls, balance sheet, variance analysis, financial budgets for all departments, depreciation schedules, and much more without supervision.- Created commission reports and distributed them using excel calculations, handled all payroll timesheets, inquiries, and payment distribution, as well as handling the daily cash account monitoring (bank reconciliation) and recording via First Merchant Bank. - Tracked down millions of dollars in collections using search engines like Google to find new contacts for the customers (if old ones weren’t answering), assisted accounts payable via data entry and bill payments, handled defectives (inventory management) for our warehouse, and was able to do all of this on top of closing the month myself for two weeks of every month.- Did not take PTO for the first 8 months of employment, arrived twenty minutes early every day, voluntarily stayed overtime consistently, and once covered part of my supervisor's job, our AR contact's full-time job, all on top of my own over the course of six days and 90 hours.

      - Tripled my workload, nearly doubled my salary, received promotions and bonuses as well as taking on a co-worker's job on top of my own when he took a leave of absence due to surgery.- Handled five separate financial/operations reports with supreme accuracy and presented this information to C-Suite level execs on a regular basis.- Tracked down collections, handled carrier payment complaints, developed an entire AR process for our company's Operations team, paid the company's AP bills, and managed the company's ERP system.- Represented the company on-site at the client's office on a daily basis, led meetings to C-Suite execs with five times the experience of myself, landed new carriers for the client, handled tracking calls and managed customer service for the client's carriers.
