Spearheaded research on epigenetic regulation of transposable element (TE) expression and its impact on natural innate immune responses in myeloid cells. Pioneered new molecular techniques to measure the interaction of TEs with innate immune senors. Our work suggests that natural innate immune responses are driven in part by detection of transposable elements, in particular LINE1, as a countermeasure to broaden and strengthen responses to pathogen.
