I have known Dawit since 2008 when he joined AGU as Editor's Assistant. After he became Production Coordinator in 2011, I interacted with him closely in my capacity as Information System Analyst, being responsible for implementing XML workflows and ensuring quality of XML markup, until 2012 when I left AGU. I would rank him as one of the best Production Coordinators I have worked with. Dawit showed a proactive attitude in handling whatever project he was involved in. On his own initiative he proposed and implemented a number of significant improvements to the Editor Profile template at the AGU web site, as well as to the AGU electronic manuscript submission system. Being a conscientious and solution-oriented employee, when Dawit noticed that publication fees were not being collected during the transition of one of the AGU journals from the old platform to the new one, he took the initiative to design and implement the workflow that ensured that the company did not lose the revenue it was entitled to. Dawit always strove to achieve a higher level of professional development by learning from his colleagues and taking educational courses. Having completed the Business Analysis training at the George Mason University, he was instrumental in helping me analyze, design, and implement the 'XML First' workflow for a new AGU journal handled by a new conversion and composition vendor. He was also effective in ensuring the quality of reference markup -- the task that can be technically challenging. The workflows, diagrams, and textual documentation Dawit created greatly facilitated the communication flow between AGU staff and the conversion and composition vendor. Dawit's excellent interpersonal and communication skills allowed him to develop productive working relationships with his colleagues within and outside his department, as well as with the external vendors. His listening and analytical skills allowed him to bring different parties together to discuss a problem, and then Dawit would propose and implement a solution acceptable for all involved. Dawit's exceptional work ethic; his proven record of enhancing business processes; his attention to detail coupled with his ability to see the "big picture," his highly developed interpersonal and communication skills that enabled him to successfully collaborate with colleagues, vendors, and clients; his willingness to develop professionally, as well as his proactive and problem-solving attitude make him an asset to any organization. I recommend him without reservation for any endeavor he chooses to pursue.

Dawit is proficient in practically all {if not all) of the details and procedures, bells and whistles, of a complex, entirely new system of operations that has been installed at our location. He excels at mastered the requirements for accuracy and speed--both extremely necessary for a successful production department. Easy to work with, he generously provides support to colleagues who may be stymied; often, he even by quietly teachs them how to perform a step by guiding them through performing it for themselves--not by just doing it himself. No doubt the latter is faster, but little if any learning occurs that way. Dawit is a highly intelligent, pleasant colleague!
