Worked in the famous/notorious "Jungle" refugee camp just outside of the Northern French city of Calais. Entrusted with the responsibility to ensure the equitable distribution of donations to the various refugee groups within the camp. First as single volunteer and later as team leader. CONFLICT PREVENTION/DIFFUSION/RESOLUTION: Managed to prevent major incidents during my time as distribution team manager despite tense relationships between various self-segregated refugee groups. Mediated or pre-empted disputes from escalating in high-stress situations on numerous occasions. CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION/CULTURAL SENSITIVITY: Managed to effectively communicate and establish positive working relations with over 20 different refugee groups under challenging working conditions despite major language- and cultural barriers; in order to serve the primary needs of up to 6000 people daily. Designed and executed five preparatory programmes for a total 150+ students to participate in- and excel at international debating competitions globally (Model United Nations). Achieved international success with my teams winning over 20+ awards. Took lead in public- and private sector funding for organisation; raising over $27,000 USD. PUBLIC SPEAKING/PRESENTING/PROGRAMME DESIGN: Tasked with design and execution the preparatory programme for the LeidenMUN Association; their principal product and source of income. In the design and execution of this programme, I deepened my rhetorical and oratorical abilities as well as my planning and presentation skills. PUBLIC SECTOR FUND RAISING: Together with one colleague, we independently raised over $27,000 USD from the Harvard International Relations Council and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. ORGANISATION OF INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL: Organised travel and accomodation for 80+ international students on journeys to the UK, USA, Serbia and Belgium. Show less
