Manger of Loss Prevention and Safety, I am responsible for 2 locations. Primarily based out of our retail store, I am responsible for managing and directing the loss prevention staff, conducting accident investigations, drug testing on ALL new employee's, breath alcohol testing for accidents and random screenings and implementing new loss prevention / safety policies and procedures to accommodate a changing environment. I work closely with our Human Resources Dept. in active investigations, complaints and urgent matters. I have designed an Emergency Operations Plan for the Chicago locations that includes, severe weather response, workplace violence, line of succession, hazard and vulnerability analysis, resource guide and contact information. I am also charged with conducting "live" fire extinguisher training at both facilities. Our Distribution Center is 300,000 sq.ft. of warehouse, in which I have instituted many safety procedures such as emergency evacuation plans, emergency response plans, stripping safety zones, and worked with local fire department to protect a large volume of furniture. I instituted an alpha-numeric system to mark our fire exits and "man-doors" so if there is a smoky fire, firefighters can utilize our reflective characters to find their way out of the building. Patrol, traffic enforcement, basic investigations, accident investigations, domestic violence calls, medical assistance calls, DUI -SFST Instructor, Evidence Technician, courtroom testimony and answered calls for public service. Using sound judgement and reasoning, I was able to diffuse many potentially violent situations. I worked to consul those in times of loss, or that needed someone to rely on as they didn't have anyone else to help them. I assisted the residents in providing them information and suggestions to assist them in addressing on-going problems. I heavily enforced traffic and DUI violations to prevent preventable deaths. For three years I was honored to receive awards from AAIM (Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists) for my aggressive DUI arrests. I routinely volunteered to work annual Roadside Safety Checks to reduce the amount of DUI drivers on our local roads. Show less

    • Assistant Director of Emergency Services
      • Oct 1994 - Jan 2006

As Asst. Director I managed the Emergency Services Unit for the Village of Bolingbrook. With a population at the time of 55,000, I also developed the Emergency Operations Plan for Village. I was responsible for getting the Village their first time accreditation as a "Storm Ready Community, which took roughly three years to complete. I responded to all critical incidents with the fire and police departments. FEMA issued 2 Exemplary Practice Awards to the Village and myself as I created and developed 2 new cutting edge programs; Residential Fire Response / Fire Victim Care and Firefighter Rehabilitation Program. The Residential Fire Response Program was instituted to assist residents after they suffered a residential fire. Instead of just putting the fire out and leaving, we were the first to address the needs of the fire victims. We provided them with shelter, food, clothing and necessities to assist them in getting through their difficult time. The Firefighter Rehab program was created and designed to implement protocol as to when a firefighter should re-enter a fire. Protocol was developed to monitor the firefighters vital signs, hydration and physical state before they would re-enter a fire for a second round. The Rehab unit provided hydration, heating, cooling and snacks to re-energize the firefighter prior to entering, therefore reducing injury or sickness. This program was the first of it's kind in Illinois. It has since expanded to other municipalities. I also started the first Will County Search & Rescue team as part of a mutual aid association, which consisted of several municipal agencies. I assisted local area commerce with developing their emergency operations plans, fire extinguisher training, severe weather shelter evaluations, and evacuation procedures. I was also asked to assist a local Lutheran Church in helping them in developing a congregation emergency response team, as they wanted to assist those in need. Show less
