Mike Lackman

I had the pleasure of working for Dave for nearly two years, and the knowledge that I gained while working for him taught me a tremendous amount about online retail, running a business, and managing people. I can confidently say that I have never worked in an enivronment where a single person’s vision materialized so cohesively throughout the organization, even among large fluctuations in staff and work levels. Dave is a man of principle who runs his business based on the core values that drive him, and those values come through clearly in his every-day management of the business. Still, perhaps the greatest part about working for Dave was the extent to which he pushed himself to include less senior people in determining the strategic direction of the company. Dave was always open to opinions different than his own, and in most cases was happy to be proven wrong about an issue. Anyone looking for a dynamic company run by a great CEO should seek out UncommonGoods.

I founded UncommonGoods with the goal of introducing more people to creative design in a sustainable way. UncommonGoods is a hub of creativity - from collaborations where we work with designers to help get products made to the commerce side of our web site and catalog where customers can purchase a broad range of items that are great for gifts or themselves. We strive to do everything in a sustainable manner, beginning with treating everyone with dignity and respect, paying a living wage, using environmentally-friendly materials and working with vendors who share similar practices. We are a Founding B Corporation and we successfully advocated for Paid Family Leave and a higher minimum wage in New York. Show less

CYD is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide support services to disadvantaged public high school students. I helped establish the organization when I was a volunteer tutor at Manhattan Comprehensive Night and Day High School (MCNDHS) in 1994. The organization provides a variety of critical support services to high school students at MCNDHS, Health Professions and Human Services High School and City As School. I was as a founding Board member, served as Board Chair from 2000 to 2007 and have been a member of the Board of Advisors since then. Show less

A volunteer organization dedicated to the restoration of this badly neglected park on NY's Lower East Side, with a goal of making the park inviting to all members of our diverse neighborhood. We helped raise $10 million to restore the park. Construction began in March 2019 and is slated for completion in late 2020.
