My wife and I hired Dan as a graphic designer and illustrator for the children’s book company we were in the process of launching. From the beginning, Dan was incredibly professional, organized and thoughtful. He was able to translate our ask into a comprehensive project plan and provided an accurate sizing from both a budget and timeline perspective. Over the course of the engagement, he has worked hard to make sure he hit deadlines and he always communicates if anything is taking longer than expected or if there are different work streams that need to be prioritized. On the creative side, Dan quickly demonstrated a mastery of the graphic design elements that we needed to produce our book and was quick to absorb and incorporate the stylistic vision we had while also infusing the project with great ideas of his own. We could not be happier with the work product he has delivered. In addition, Dan has been a tremendous asset on the production side, both with his past experience bringing projects to print as well as his ability to collaborate with the printers and software development team. On the rare occasions that there was something that we asked of him that he had not done before, Dan would study up and come back prepared with a solution. Over the course of our project we have come rely on Dan’s work ethic, design sense, honesty, and diligence. He is a pleasure to work with on both a personal and professional level and I would be happy to recommend him to any and all prospective employers.

Dan is a highly talented illustrator. He has the ability to capture an emotion or an action that can capture the viewer. I have a copy of my favorite piece he did while he and I worked together. It is of an old man holding a teddybear, standing in front of a grandfathers clock that has no hands to tell time. Though I had a different interpretation of it than he did it was extremely moving. I hired Dan when I was the design director at Zondervan, a HarperCollins company. He designed book interiors and did the typesetting for them. His skills in this area came naturally to him. He quickly learned the necessary tasks and efficiently put them to work. He was always willing and able to pick up any task. He helped in many other areas of the design work. He is a true team player. I highly recommend for any kind of design or illustration task.

This was a large-scale long-term project that I worked on as an independent freelancer. Little Book of You is a customizable, modular, children’s book personalized to tell the story of each child’s early life. As the sole creative contractor on this project, I worked closely with the owners to develop the look of the product, establish a timeline for deliverables that fit within their needs, and executed the production of all necessary art assets. Subsequently I worked with them to produce all ancillary art assets including the product packaging, marketing materials including email newsletters, Instagram post, website assets, and an animated introductory video. During my time on this project, I am most proud of the animated video that I produced, as this was outside of my area of expertise. It was necessary for me to learn elements of Adobe Flash, Adobe Premiere, and Adobe After Effects without prior knowledge or training in order to produce this animation, and I was able to do so without comprising on the project deadline. During my time at Harper Collins I worked both as an interior designer and prepress operator. I was instrumental in the production of book covers and product packaging. My position required a high level of attention to detail especially in regards to maintaining branding standards. This position relied heavily on advanced knowledge of Indesign, and to a lesser extent Photoshop and Illustrator. Communicating consistently with the editorial staff, art directors, and vendors was a daily part of my… Show more During my time at Harper Collins I worked both as an interior designer and prepress operator.
