I have worked with Cort in Rapid City (XLR), Bay Networks/Nortel (XLR+) and Trapeze (Wireless). Cort Holbrook is a level-headed, focused, "can do" engineer with experience in pretty much all layers of the OSI model. On one hand, Cort can open a box of a brand new device that nobody knows anything about and get it working within hours. On the other hand, give Cort a room full of mature network devices and omponents, and within a few days the network is up-and-running, assembled and configured to the specifications of the situation. Cort's vast experience gives him the knowledge and intuition to find and replicate both trivial and non-trivial issues, as well as provide input for enhancements. Cort takes on testing both from the black box and white box point of view. He does drill down to the particulars of all RFCs, which I believe he has memorized. I would not pigeon-hole Cort into QA as he is an engineer of many hats, but he does strive for achievable perfection when it comes to quality. There are many ways to lead without being a manager, which Cort has always demonstrated. I envision Cort's future as a hands-on, savvy and knowledgable manager who will inspire his team as he works with and contributes to the team.

I was one of two Senior Staff Test Engineer’s providing System and Functional level test support for Nortel’s router product line. Customer interaction was part of the Pre-GA and GA release cycles. Secondary role in providing Functional Test for the Passport 1000 and 8600 routers. Compliance testing is based on RFC, IEEE and Vendor specific feature definitions. System Test function is based on common customer network designs. Bug reproduction and new feature testing is a core part of my daily activates. System Test methodology is based on a standard suite of feature regression as well as topology based references and validation points.
