      Cook Costello are a multi-disciplinary company based in Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and Whangarei. Christchurch work was primarily in response to the Canterbury 2010/2011 earthquakes and the Kaikoura 2016 earthquake. Work included;- Geotechnical assessment of residential and commercial properties to determine seismic and static ground performance and provide recommendations and reporting to inform repair/rebuild strategies.- Structural assessment of residential and commercial properties to determine extent of earthquake damage and provide recommendations and reporting to outline scope of works for reinstatement strategy.- Design of foundation repair strategies, new foundations, structural elements/systems etc.-Detailed Seismic Assessments (DSA) on existing commercial buildings to determine current percentage to new building standard (%NBS).- Managed workload of major insurance company clients (IAG Insurance) following the 2016 Kaikoura seismic event. Assumed the role of team lead within the office to ensure effective and timely delivery of structural assessments/reporting.- Provided Expert Witness input to numerous High Court cases relating to assessment and reinstatement of earthquake damage. This included peer review of other experts reports, attending legal meetings with plaintiffs and defendants, attending court mandated joint site visits, preparation of Joint Reports with other experts, and attending claim settlement conferences.- Communication with clients including insurance company Loss Adjusters/Case Managers, legal teams, property owners and other expert witnesses (on legal cases).- Provided training and support to new team members of the Christchurch office.

      Refining NZ is New Zealand's only oil refining company located at Marsden Point near Whangarei, NZ. During my summer working there, the foundations for a new petroleum plant was under construction. Work included:-Assisting the site engineer with quality control during construction. This included ground inspections, pre-concrete pour inspections and testing of materials to be used on-site. One concrete pour of note was the largest in-situ concrete pour ever carried out in New Zealand at the time, at over 1500m3 and taking over 24 hours to complete.-Providing solutions to steel reinforcing conflicts and connection designs.-Development of self compacting concrete mix to be used in construction.-Assisted with intumescent coating design to be used on all steel structures within the plant.
