At Holyoke Gas and Electric, I am currently employed as a seasonal Research Lead where I am aiding to and working towards the research and protection of various species in the Connecticut River at the Robert E. Barret Fishway in Holyoke Massachusetts. More specifically, I am working under a lead biologist onsite where I aid with species sampling, data collection and entry, PIT tagging, and more. In the early season we primarily focused on American Shad and other Anadromous fish species traveling up river such as Sea Lamprey and Striped Bass. During the summer and our later season we have taken a major focus in American Eels and Endangered Shortnose Sturgeon, collecting eels for safe transport above the dam and or for sampling by various government agencies, such as the U.S Geological Survey and the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service. Alongside this we monitor sturgeon travel upriver and keep a count of how many pass through the dam while also measuring and PIT tagging any shortnose sturgeon which pass through the dam. Show less

I worked as a paid intern at the Holyoke Fish Lift, which is located at the Robert E. Barret Fish way and Dam in Holyoke MA. At this job, I have a variety of tasks that consist of counting and identifying anadromous fish species that are traveling up the Connecticut River to spawn. Likewise, on certain occasions, my job also includes tagging and or processing certain species of fish such as Short-nose Sturgeon and Atlantic Salmon which are extremely threatened. This job was my introduction to working in conservation and wildlife work. The workplace has an emphasis on teamwork, safety, and accuracy as we do our research in a Dam facility with lots of potential hazards to be aware of while collecting important data for Massachusetts fish and game services. This position was seasonal and not permanent, It is likely I will return temporarily again to aid in research for another season. Show less
