I study allorecognition and polymorphism between Botryllus schlosseri organisms within families to understand the biology of transplanted tissue rejection and acceptance in medicine. This model organism has a special characteristic of rejecting or accepting others into its blood circulation based on an unknown factor. To address this unknown, I modeled 220+ of the B. schlosseri proteins or splicing variants using Alphafold to add to the understanding of the model organism’s sequence and contrast these findings with other polymorphic gene sequences. Additionally, I work on protein-protein docking to better understand the sequence of these proteins that span the organism's membrane and the binding affinity for these protein dockings. I have docked 50+ receptor, secretion, and chaperone proteins using various protein-protein docking softwares such as HADDOCK, ClusPro, and LZerD servers following the Critical Assessment Predicted Interactions (CAPRI) validated protein-protein docking server list. Alongside a PhD student, I enhance 20 first-year chemistry students’ understanding of general chemistry laboratory by performing laboratory procedure demonstrations and preparing chemistry concept lectures. I teach and aid weekly laboratory procedures on chemistry topics such as titrations, gas laws, and stoichiometry. I collaborate with graduate students in weekly meetings to discuss the variety of methods and best approaches to teach students certain difficult concepts. Within my two terms, I worked with the Dublin Mayor and DUSD students on the city’s diversity project, which spearheads the deterrence of discrimination in the school district. Within this project, we hosted school-wide assemblies and classroom conversations on community equity at elementary schools Additionally, I collaborated with the nonprofit 2SERVE to streamline their virtual volunteer matching platform.
