CAMM is a non-profit (501-c-6) organization that represents Master Mariners (licensed by the USCG to command vessels of "any gross tons, or unlimited") -- and vessel/harbor pilots -- who have commanded/piloted vessels over 5,000 GT. CAMM also represents Master Mariners who have "limited licenses" to command smaller vessels of up to 1600 GT (including research/survey vessels, tugs, fishing vessels, OSV craft, tour boats, ferries, etc.). CAMM also represents Associate Members that are regarded as "Maritime Professionals" working ashore in a variety of capacities and positions, including: vessel fleet managers and ship agents, marine surveyors, port authority staff, marine terminal & stevedore contractors, and members of maritime-related government agencies (USCG, NOAA, USACE, USN, MARAD, and others). CAMM's Associate Members also include licensed mates (and even a few licensed marine engineers) who are still active in the U.S. Merchant Marine. And CAMM also invites the midshipmen and cadets at the state and federal maritime academies to become "student members" of the organization (and they are eligible to become Associate Members after they graduate; and ultimately can achieve "Regular Member status" after they raise their licenses to Master Mariner, and take command of their first vessel). You may check out CAMM more thoroughly at their website: www.mastermariner.org -- click on the "About Us" link in the left margin of the Home Page. After 6+ years of service to CAMM as their National Secretary/Treasurer, I announced last year (2019) that I would step down from that position this year (2020) and not seek reelection to another two-year term. I've "passed the baton" over to my relief - Capt. Augusta D. "Gussie" Roth - who assumed that position at CAMM effective this month (August 2020). She can be reached by email at: [email protected]. I wish her Good luck and Godspeed in that challenging assignment! Cap'n Manny
