Asher was a core member of our well delivery program at Shell Canada being a change agent for continuous improvement. Asher contributed in many ways that weren't always considered "the norm" adding significant value to well engineering and execution as well as to the team dynamic. Things I remember most about Asher; integrity, technical knowledge, inclusion, quality, team work.

Philip Vogelsberg

Asher is knowledgeable about well engineering, optimization and modeling. He is collaborative and easy to work with. I have seen him prove his effectiveness as a teacher of a class on modeling and ERD drilling. I have only had good experiences in my work with Asher.

    • Senior Drilling Optimization Engineer
      • Sep 2006 - Jan 2010

Introduced and implemented a drilling simulation process (DROPS) in well-planning phase. The introduction of this novel approach gave a significant breakthrough to drilling performance in Shell. It provided an opportunity to run different scenarios to select the best combination of bit design, BHA, downhole motor, drilling parameters and also an estimated depth to pull out a bit. The introduction of this methodology reduced drilling time by 50 - 60% • Worked with the drilling technology team, vendors and deployed; real-time drilling optimization package, drilling roadmap, automated drill-off test, real-time stick-slip indicator, and drill string rocking system to reduce drag while sliding • Drove idea of drilling with controlled drilling parameters, optimum HSI (hydraulic horsepower). these initiatives increased ROP to 40%, improved bit life, reduced bit trips to half and lowered well cost by 40%• Led collaborative well planning and field development planning sessions, these enabled teams to plan wells/pads in days, compare to months the conventional methods take• Assisted pilot trails for real-time operation center and remote directional drilling center• Reduced rig invisible lost time (NPT) by adding a flat-time analysis tool• Emphasized the use of Root Cause Failure studies for developing risk reduction (NPT) strategies for upcoming wells• Performed pilot trials for Mechanical Specific Energy (MSE) for maximizing ROP and improving bit life• Wrote procedures for running casing in long reach wells• Developed downhole vibration models, provided critical speed analysis and steps to follow at the rig for mitigating vibrations and stick-slip• Wrote procedures for real-time calibration of torque and drag models, and hydraulics models Show less
