Anne is a very smart, competent and highly motivated person. She picks up new concepts and technologies quite easily and needs little work direction. Coming into a newly created job position with no technology experience she quickly gained mastery over complex technical requirements and became a highly productive member of our team."

Sam Falco

Anne was hired at Quark in 2012 to develop and maintain configuration files as well as to perform QA testing, with the intention that these activities would prepare her to join the XML Research and Development team as a software developer after 12 to 18 months. Anne threw herself into her work, absorbing knowledge about XML, XSLT, and the product on which she worked with such gusto that she was ready to transition into development work after only six months. She quickly became an integral part of the Quark XML Author Scrum team, and contributed greatly to the stability and growth of the product. In addition, she demonstrated a capacity for leadership by facilitating Scrum meetings when the Scrum Master was absent. Anne Cain will be a valuable addition to any software development team.

As a Software Engineer, I continued all of my previous duties as a Configuration Engineer as well as doing full time developer work.I was a part of the team that fixed bugs and implemented new features to Quark XML Author, which is a globally used add-in to Microsoft Word and a component of Quark's Enterprise Solutions. As part of an agile development team I was able to work on any aspect of the product including interface, general coding, and localization/resources. My team was also tasked with the creation of a new product for the company called Merlin. For Merlin we used test-driven development, so I became familiar with unit tests and Moq. I also became the backup SCRUM master and would lead scrum when he was unavailable.

I was originally hired to update and manage the XML configuration files used in Quark XML Author, but quickly expanded to more. I assisted QA with backlog grooming and testing. I was tasked with improving our build process and was able to cut down both setup time and actual build time by over 50%. I made improvements to SmartPaste (a feature of the product that dealt with conversion from Microsoft's OOXML to our configuration specific XML) and continued to be in charge of modifications from then on. This required learning XSLT.
